| Description | Developed from "best practices" derived from the organ procurement literature, the Family Communication Coordinator (FCC) Protocol outlines a communication path to promote family members' understanding of brain death and their acceptance of loss, while also developing a communication plan among health care professionals. Activated by a clinical trigger, the FCC Protocol uses a team approach, with a designated hospital chaplain, critical care nursing and medical staff, and organ procurement organization professionals assigned specific responsibilities. This presentation will review the impact of the FCC Protocol from the perspective of donation outcomes as well as from macro (systems theory, stakeholder analysis) and micro theoretical perspectives. In addition, it will highlight the positive unintended consequences on work attitudes and role stress found by expanding evaluation beyond traditional donation outcomes to a micro theoretical perspective |
