Industry of the Ordinary is an artist collective consisting of conceptual artist Adam Brooks (1959) and performance artist Mathew Wilson (1967). Among the numerous exhibitions and performances that Industry of the Ordinary has taken part in include Art Institute of Chicago, Modern Wing opening (2009); Supermarketing, Northeastern Illinois, University, Chicago (2009); 12 x 12 at Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago (2008); Celebrity and The Peculiar, Gahlberg Gallery, College of DuPage, Illinois (2008); Mapping the Self, Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago (2007); Ruby Satellite, UCR/California Museum of Photography, Riverside, California (2006); Site/Unseen, Chicago Cultural Center, Chicago (2006); Intimate and Epic, Lurie Garden, Millennium Park, Chicago (2006); Nova Young Art Fair, Chicago (2005); PAC Edge Performance Festival, Performing Arts Chicago, Athenaeum Theater, Chicago (2005); Outer Ear Festival of Sound, Experimental Sound Studio, Chicago (2004); and Dropping 163 lbs: Daley Plaza, Chicago (2003). They have received many awards and grants including those from the Illinois Arts Council (2006) and the Illinois Humanities Council (2005) as well as a Faculty Development Grant from Columbia College, Chicago (2005). Their works belong to the collections of the Museum of Contemporary Photography, Chicago; the Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago (AB); Gabriel Mayer, Munich, Germany; and Aaron Levine, Washington DC. Adam Brooks received his MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1988, and lives and works in Chicago.
