Loyalist mural, Donegall Road, South Belfast, 1989. Mural commemorates John McMichael, Loyalist paramilitary leader who also became involved in politics with the creation of the Ulster Loyalist Democratic Party; McMichael was killed by the IRA with the collusion of members of the UDA in 1987. Mural depicts emblems of various Loyalist paramilitary groups - principally Ulster Defence Association (Northern Ireland flag with Masonic star, Red Hand of Ulster, flanked by Scottish flag and Union Jack) 'Quis Separabit' - Who will separate?; other organisations' emblems: Ulster Freedom Fighters (UFF); Roden Street Defenders (RSD); Loyalist Prisoners' Association (LPA); Ulster Defence Force (UDF). |
