Carefully archived away at the Libraries of
The Claremont Colleges are countless items
documenting people, research, and events
significant in the history of the Claremont
Colleges. Using the Claremont Colleges
Digital Library ( CCDL), patrons have access
to these materials that have been digitized.
Students can browse or perform a keyword
search. Results displayed include a thumbnail
image for quick reference. Using the My
Favorites feature, any media file, including
audio and video, can be added to a personal
folder for later viewing, or imported into
Power Point for a classroom presentation.
The CCDL now has seven collections that
total more than 5,000 items, covering topics
on history, science, art, music, government
and political science. Soon topics will
include religion and the social sciences.

EXHIBITS AT THE LIBRARIES “ San Francisco’s Great Disaster”:
100th Anniversary of the 1906 Earthquake
August – December, Honnold/ Mudd Library
On April 18, 1906, shortly after 5: 00 a. m., a
great earthquake struck San Francisco and
the surrounding area to the northwest and
southeast. This exhibit honors the 100th
anniversary of the earthquake and its depiction
in official reports, photographs, newspaper
and magazine accounts from the period.

The Art of Japanese Handmade Paper
September – October, Denison Library
Fine papers for calligraphy, printmaking, and many other purposes have been
made by hand in Japan using the same traditional methods for nearly 1,400
years. This exhibition draws on the extensive collection of papermaking literature
at Denison. It complements exhibitions on Japanese printmaking at Williamson
Gallery and Clark Humanities Museum at Scripps College.
