In the field of psychology, the move has
been to more measurement. This means
that both professional psychologists and
introductory psychology students often
need to find a psychology measure - a
survey, a test, a scale, or something that
will yield statistics for their research.
There are many tests at Honnold/Mudd
Library. There are books in HON REF that
include actual tests that you can copy to
use for research without having to wait. An
index to these tests is on the Libraries’ web
site at libraries.claremont.edu. Click on
Research Guides by Subject, then
Psychology, then Finding Tests, then Test
Index.
The “Finding Tests” page also has helpful
hints for looking further. And Meg Garrett,
the psychology subject specialist, is always
willing to help out. Email her with any
psychology research question at
meg.garrett@libraries.claremont.edu.

from Denison Library’s Collections
Denison Library
February 7 - March 31, 2005
Ideas of love, courtship
and marriage are
pulled together for this
exhibition of materials from Denison’s permanent collections.
Nineteenth and twentieth century valentines and
etiquette books give a historical perspective on how our attitudes toward love and courtship have changed over the past two centuries. Sonnets and other materials from the Elizabeth Barrett Browning collection and artists’ books with stories of love will also be on display.

FROM THE RARE BOOK ROOM:
MINIATUREBOOKS
T HE L IB R A R I E S O F T HE CLAREMONT COLLEGES
Visitors to
Denison’s Rare
Book Room are
always charmed
by the collection
of miniature
books. Miniatures
are
typically less
than 3 inches tall
and the first is believed to have been
created in 1468, not long after the
invention of movable type. These
books were published because of the
low cost to make them ( paper was ex-pensive!),
they were easy to travel with
and easy to conceal. Featured here is
The English Bijou Almanac of 1836.

Eyewitnesses to War: Personal
Narratives of the American Civil War
1
Honnold/ Mudd Library, 2nd Floor
January 24 – March 25, 2005
1
This year marks the 140th anniversary
of the end of the American Civil
War, 1861- 1865. On exhibit are
firsthand accounts of soldiers and
others from this period that provide
immediate and personal views of
the War. Of special note are hand-written
manuscripts including soldier’s letters and
diaries, memoirs, and artifacts such as photographs,
army dispatches, and music. The compelling voices
documented by this exhibition provide invaluable insight
and perspective to America's experience with war.
To provide better service, we have
rearrange some things: the Information
and Reference desks have been
combined and are located at the top of
the stairs as you enter the building.
Several upgraded computers have
been placed in the room just south of
this Desk. Interlibrary Loan has now
merged into the Circulation area. The
Copy Center has relocated to the 2nd
floor, next to the Search Center. Also,
you will see a variety of new art work in
the building, courtesy of CGU.
