Alexander Wilson, and
other extraordinary bird
illustrators are highlighted
in this exhibit
from Denison’s collections.
California Books Illustrated with Original Photographs
October 25 - January, Honnold/ Mudd Library
In the second half of the 19th century a small but significant
number of books were illustrated with original photographs.
On display are a selection of publications that experimented
with the use of the albumen print during this period.
“ San Francisco’s Great Disaster”: 100th Anniversary of the
1906 Earthquake
August - December, Honnold/ Mudd Library
“ Owens River Valley Trip, November 7th to 18th, 1905” is
a photograph album found in the Water Resources
Collection that documents Fred Eaton’s visit to Owens
Valley to purchase water rights, land options, and parcels
of land for the Los Angeles Aqueduct. The Aqueduct
was completed in 1913. While the Los Angeles Aqueduct
was a boon to the city and was responsible in part
for its meteoric growth, it also decimated the Owens
Valley.

CLAREMONT DISCOURSE LECTURE
What was Postmodernism?
John Farrell, Associate Professor of Literature, Claremont McKenna College

The arrival of postmodernism has often been treated as an
epoch- making event in the history of Western culture. John
Farrell, author of Paranoia and Modernity: Cervantes to
Rousseau ( published by Cornell University Press in 2005),
explores some ambitious theories of what postmodernism
meant and counters them with observations of his own.
Claremont Discourse is a Faculty Lecture Series sponsored by the Libraries
of The Claremont Colleges. All lectures will be held in the Founders Room of
Honnold/ Mudd Library. Discussion will follow each lecture.
