Description
For the past decade various models of health behavior have been utilized in an attempt to increase organ donor registrations . It has been assumed that because being an organ donor can impact someone else’s health , it should be considered a health behavior . We disagree . Organ donation is not a health behavior . It has no impact on the health of the person engaging in the behavior . One would be hard pressed to find another health behavior with a similar lack of personal impact . In this talk , we will propose several theories and models from areas such as volunteerism , compliance , and consumer behavior that are more appropriate for the behavior of organ donor registration than the current usual suspects .
