Description
This
recording
is
a
summary
of
“The
New
Realities”
. A
narrator
gives
the
summary
followed
by an
interview
with
Peter
Drucker
. This
Fast
Track
mainly
covers
issues
and
trends
that will
impact
business
and
society
in the
following
decade
.
According
to the
book
, the
biggest
change
is
going
to be the
shift
to the
knowledge
worker
.
Knowledge
workers
know
more
in their
specialty
than their
boss
does
, they have to be
treated
more
like
colleagues
than
subordinates
.
Leading
a
group
of
knowledge
workers
is
compared
to
conducting
an
orchestra
, and
making
sure
the
skills
of
each
individual
contribute
and
work
well
together
as a
whole
. The
future
information
based
organization
will
likely
be
more
like
hospitals
and
universities
with
many
specialists
who
direct
their
own
performance
.
One
can
also
fully
expect
upcoming
entrepreneurial
times
will be
notable
for
social
innovations
as
well
as
technology
and
material
products
. For
many
specialists
the
only
meaningful
opportunities
appear
to be
promotions
into
management
positions
.
Compensation
and
reward
structures
, as
well
as
social
opinion
are
biased
towards
such
positions
.
Drucker
states
in his
interview
that,
“present
emphasis
on
leadership
is
a
very
dangerous
misdirection”
and
more
value
should be
placed
on
teamwork
.
