Description
This
recording
is
part
two
of the
first
day
of a
course
being
taught
by
Peter
Drucker
.
It
is
for
current
executive
management
students
but also
alumni
and
colleagues
. The
topics
are
based
on
ideas
for his
next
book
. He
begins
by
discussing
major
issues
he
thinks
will be
arising
in the
future
and if and how
political
systems
can
organize
to
cope
with them.
Drucker
states
that
when
looking
back
at
history
the
truly
great
divides
among
nations
were not
caused
by
left
over
petty
squabbles
, but by the
inability
of the
system
to
organize
itself
for
new
challenges
.
Most
governments
focus
on the
adversarial
side
of
things
and not on
finding
what
holds
us
together
. This
concerns
Drucker
because
he
says
even
though
it
is
easier
,
it
will not
work
in the
future
. He then
discusses
what
makes
a
good
labor
union
, the
effect
they have, and
when
Hitler
took
over
the
German
labor
union
. He also
states
that
many
problems
are not
being
solved
, they
become
irrelevant
because
“one
never
solves
a
problem
,
one
outlives
it”
.
One
of the
new
realities
is
that
it
is
dangerous
to
focus
on
problems
of
yesterday
instead
of
looking
ahead
.
Drucker
says
“power
can
only
be
contained
by
power
and
management
has to have
lots
of
power”
. He
announces
that the
following
week
, the
topic
will be the
functions
of
limits
of
government
.
