Description
This
recording
is
part
one
of the
first
day
of a
course
being
taught
by
Peter
Drucker
.
It
is
for
current
executive
management
students
but also
alumni
and
colleagues
. The
topics
are
based
on his
ideas
for his
next
book
.
Gale
Merseth
makes
the
introduction
. Then
Drucker
makes
several
announcements
,
including
one
about
a
topic
change
for the
following
week
, and a
joke
about
the
sound
system
being
set
up
as an
engineering
thesis
. He then
goes
on to
explain
that the
management
landmarks
of
today
and
tomorrow
are
different
than those of
yesterday
.
We
are
using
compass
bearings
that are
no
longer
on a
valid
map
and
it
leads
to
failure
. His
goal
is
to
identify
helpful
questions
, and in
some
cases
alternative
choices
, but not
answers
. He
discusses
the
importance
of
perception
,
race
relations
, and
American
politics
. He
reiterates
a
wise
mans
advice
that
you
never
reach
an
objective
,
only
about
half
of
it
,
so
if
you
don’t
aim
high
you
will
never
get
anywhere
.
Drucker
states
that the
United
States
shifted
away
from
ideological
politics
because
of
Mark
Hanna
and the
creation
of the
Republican
Party
. He
continues
with
discussion
on how
social
crises
are
worse
than
economic
crises
, and that
your
economic
position
is
determined
by
“how
long
you
have been
sitting
on
your
rear
end”
because
education
beats
economics
.
Drucker
closes
with the
idea
that the
problem
with this
century
is
not the
psychology
of the
individual
, but the
psychology
of the
mass
.
