Description
During
Peter
Drucker’s
lecture
regarding
managing
the
non-profit
organization
he
discusses
the
importance
of
governance
and
explains
that the
importance
of
governance
is
to be
effective
and not to be
powerful
and that its
motivating
factor
is
accountability
. He
goes
on to
state
that the
“greatest
weakness
of a
non-profit
is
a
lack
of
bottom
line.”
Drucker
explains
the
importance
of
pursuing
a
mission
that has a
demand
on the
market
and
uses
the
example
of the
March
of
Dimes
Birth
Defects
Foundation
that was
founded
to
cure
polio
.
Later
he
goes
on to
discuss
the
history
of the
Salvation
Army
and how
it
began
with the
mission
to
rehabilitate
prostitutes
and
preach
against
fornication
, but
when
their
efforts
were not
producing
results
they
abandoned
their
original
mission
and
began
to
focus
on
rehabilitating
delinquent
youth
and had
much
more
success
. Also in this
lecture
he
discusses
the
failure
of
missionaries
in
China
. He then
offers
his
thoughts
on
Harry
Jaffa
and the
institution
he
founded
.
