William Wallis discusses his book, “A Dream of Love Fulfilled: An Introduction to Romantic Opera as Literature: An Interdisciplinary Exploration of la Bohème, Carmen, la Traviata and the Rake’s Progress.” He begins by introducing the 5 operatic elements that each opera contains and shows how 4 plays can include them. He talks about famous opera composers such as Giacomo Puccini, Georges Bizet, Giuseppe Verdi, and Igor Stravinsky. Wallis shares that he teaches an opera as literature class and is using this book as a text. He also shares that he sung opera in Europe and that he likes teaching because he enjoys performing. He ends the interview by discussing several poetry books he has written about his family. |
