figures
that his

explores
,
such
as,
Chester
Himes
who
fathered
the

. He
explains
how in the

Roosevelt
opened
up
the
defense
industry
to
African
American
workers
it
inspired
a
wave

in the

. He

with
African
American

,
independent

, and
clubs
,

.
Later

discusses
the
segregation
of the
musician
unions
and how
when
they
integrated
they
lost
some
of their
uniqueness
.
