Book Title
Six questions of Socrates : a modern-day journey of discovery through world philosophy
Subject
Virtues
Description
Christopher
Phillips
discusses
his
book
,
“Six
Questions
of
Socrates.”
He
begins
by
explaining
that to
write
this
book
he
traveled
all
over
the
globe
visiting
,
Greece
,
Japan
,
South
Korea
, and
Mexico
. In
each
of these
places
he would
conduct
a
dialogue
with
people
from
diverse
backgrounds
such
as,
Navajo
,
Confucian
,
Islamic
,
Jewish
, and
Catholic
. With
each
person
he would
discuss
six
questions
,
each
is
given
its
own
chapter
: What
is
virtue
? What
is
moderation
? What
is
justice
? What
is
good
? What
is
courage
? What
is
piety
? He
explains
how his
hope
was to
discover
an
array
of
timely
answers
that would
help
humanity
to
achieve
human
excellence
. He
goes
on to
discuss
that the
book
also
contains
his
own
thoughts
and a
selection
of
published
ideas
ranging
from
Tom
Sawyer
to
Thich
Nhat
Hanh
.
Later
in the
interview
he
shares
that in the
final
chapter
of the
book
he
argues
that the
Socratic
pursuit
of the
virtuous
life
may
provide
a
way
of
countering
what he
sees
as a
downward
moral
spiral
that
is
prevailing
in the
world
today
.
