Description
Norman
Solomon
discusses
his
book
,
“War
Made
Easy.”
He
begins
by
explaining
that the
book
examines
the
pro-war
propaganda
generated
by the
United
States
government
during
military
interventions
. He
emphasizes
the
influence
of the
media
on
public
opinion
and
highlights
several
formulaic
messages
used
to
persuade
the
public
to
support
military
intervention
,
such
as,
portraying
the
United
States
as a
noble
and
just
superpower
,
whose
leaders
strive
to
avoid
war
at
all
costs
while
the
enemy
leader
is
portrayed
as a
violent
aggressor
intent
on
violating
human
rights
. He
begins
the
book
in
1965
with
President
Johnson’s
influence
on
public
messages
as he
sent
troops
into the
Dominican
Republic
. He
goes
on to
argue
that
President
Johnson’s
handling
of the
Dominican
Republic
invasion
established
the
standard
for a
media
agenda
employed
by
subsequent
presidents
to
promote
approval
for their
actions
. From there
Solomon
continues
his
analysis
throughout
the
history
of the
United
States
and
concluding
with the
war
in
Iraq
.
