Description |
Georja Skinner discusses her book, “The Christmas House.” She begins by explaining that the book tells the story of her father’s life. Her father, George Skinner, moved from Canada to Santa Monica with his father. When they left Canada he was told that his mother and two brothers had passed away, only to discover this to be a lie later in his life. George’s life became more complex when he developed polio as a young man. As a form of therapy and self-healing, George and his neighbors decorated his home for Christmas and opened it up for visitors. His house later became known as the “Christmas House” and each year the displays were expanded upon. Skinner goes on to share the story of a fire that consumed the house on the third year and the following efforts to rebuild it. Also in this interview, Skinner discusses the process of constructing the book with her sister Theresa. |
