Description
Michael
Shermer
discusses
his
book
,
“Science
Friction.”
He
begins
by
explaining
that the
book
is
a
collection
of
essays
that
explore
the
barriers
and
biases
that
both
plaque
and
fuel
science
. In these
essays
he
faces
such
questions
as: how
does
science
respond
to
controversy
,
attack
and
uncertainty
? He
looks
at how
we
know
what
we
know
and
asks
the
question
:
when
does
theory
become
accepted
fact
? He
goes
on to
relate
how he
pretended
to be a
psychic
for a
day
and the
implications
of that
deception
. He also
shares
the
story
of his
mother’s
battle
with
cancer
and how they
explored
the
possibilities
of
alternative
and
experimental
medicine
in an
effort
to
save
her
life
. Also in this
interview
,
Shermer
discusses
how and
why
such
terms
as
“Atheist”
and
“Agnostic”
have
taken
on
such
negative
connotations
in
American
society
.
