Description |
Laura Kalpakian discusses her novel, “Cosette.” She begins by explaining that her book is a sequel to Victor Hugo’s famous novel, “Les Misérables.” She talks about how her book can stand independently from the original, and the reader doesn’t need to know the characters before reading her book. She discusses the liberties she took to change the life stories of Hugo’s characters, and how some fans of “Les Misérables” were angered by her decisions. Kalpakian talks about the setting of the story and the 1789 French Revolution. She ends the interview by discussing how the book took almost 2 years to write, and that her publishers wanted it to be ready by Bastille Day. |
