DAHLAK, town in Egypt, the location of which is unknown. The patriarch Cyril II (1078-1092) fled to Dahlak when conflicts within the church and threats of Muslim encroachment forced him to seek refuge. However, the Muslim authority in Dahlak captured him, took his money, and returned him to the amir al-Guyus in Cairo.
