BASHBISH, a town in Egypt said by medieval Muslim authors to be the forerunner of Nisf Awwal Bashbish and Nisf Thani Bashbish, located in the Gharbiyyah province.
The HISTORY OF THE PATRIARCHS mentions Bashbish in passing as a geographical reference point. During the patriarchate of ZACHARIAS (1004-1032), a conflict arose between the bishop of Tanah and the bishop of Samannud over which bishopric could rightfully claim al-Kom Sandara. According to the account, this place lay between Bashbish and Shubra Damanah. It is uncertain whether this Bashbish is the same city spoken of by the Muslim authors.
