STEINWENTER, ARTUR (1888-1959), Austrian legal historian. He was a pupil of Leopold Wenger, a professor at the University of Graz, a member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, and, with A. A. Schiller, one of only two historians of law who then worked also with Coptic Law. He published two books about Coptic law, Studien zu den koptischen Rechtsurkunden aus Oberägypten (Leipzig, 1920; repr. Amsterdam, 1967) and Das Recht der koptischen Urkunden (Munich, 1955), and many articles.
