QINA, capital of Qina Province in Upper Egypt. It is located on the east bank of the Nile about 30 miles (48 km) northeast of HIW. The city was known in Greek first as Kainopolis and then began to be called Maximanopolis in the third century.
Qina was mentioned in a list of third-century bishoprics by George of Cyprus and occurs in medieval Coptic-Arabic scales, which suggests that the city has a long Christian tradition.
