ALTAR-BOARD (maqta‘ or al-lawh al-khashab), consecrated rectangular wooden panel set into a special slot on the surface of the altar to be used as a substitute reliquary, when needed. Usually it is decorated with a cross and bears the signs i/ ,r uc yc (Jesus Christ Son of God) in the four squares between the arms of the cross.
