ISAAC, DISCIPLE OF APOLLO, known to us only through the Apophthegmata Patrum. It is likely that Apollo is the one to whom the HISTORIA MONACHORUM devotes a long notice in Chapter 8 (Festugièrer, 1971, pp. 46-71). If this identification is correct, Isaac would have been a monk at the end of the fourth century in the Thebaid, where he founded a large community of monks. The most prominent feature of his personality, according to the apothegm, appears to be his intense love for stillness.
