EXHIBITS AT THE LIBRARIES
A Poetic Coup d’Etat: Mallarmé’s
Influence on Artists’ Books
January 16 - March 9
Denison Library
The typographic legacy
of Stephane Mallarmé’s visual
poem Un Coup de des ( Throw of
the Dice) on the work of later twentieth
century book artists are examined.
This exhibition coordinates with
an exhibition of visual and textual
interpretations of Un Coup de des in the Clark Humanities
Museum. Both complement a symposium on Mallarmé to be
held at Scripps on January 27.
“ Food Will Win the War”:
Posters from the Food Administration during WWI
January 22 - March 23, Honnold/ Mudd Library
The U. S. Food Administration operated in each state to assure
the supply, distribution, and conservation of food during wartime.
By combining patriotism and the spirit of volunteerism
with advertising, the Food Administration produced posters for
both outdoor and indoor display. In this exhibit, curated by
Pitzer student David Boone, are examples of posters that
were used to mobilize the food effort during World War I.
