Library Research, Publications and Events at The Claremont Colleges contains a variety of videos, and related materials, about the different activities that occur at the Libraries. Videos that depict the history of The Claremont Colleges and the libraries are also included in the collection. While many different activities occur at the Libraries, two of the ongoing series include GIS Day and celebrating National Library Week. Another ongoing lecture series, the Claremont Discourse Lectures series, is also available in the CCDL.
Staff of the Libraries publish a variety of materials, including research articles, white papers, presentations, and conference reports on a regular basis. All publications in this institutional repository were produced by current or former staff of the Libraries and are reproduced or published here with permission.
The Libraries produce two publications on a regular basis, Connections and graffiti. Connections is the newsletter from The Libraries of the Claremont Colleges and includes the Library Director's column, feature articles about faculty or library services, and regular columns by and about Library Staff. graffiti is an informational poster produced bimonthly that highlights events and information of general interest to all library patrons. Other publications produced and archived here include the Libraries. Annual Report and other occasional administrative publications.
Faculty Authors Reception
The Faculty Authors Reception is an annual event hosted by The Libraries of The Claremont Colleges to recognize and celebrate the Claremont Colleges faculty who have recently published. Authors speak on issues they have come across in the process of writing and publishing such as their motivation for writing, writing alone or in collaboration, the obstacles they had to surmount, and the things they were able to laugh about in the process of publishing. The event is open to all and always inspires some interesting conversations.
A global event, GIS Day is celebrated annually in countries around the world. The Libraries hosted their first annual GIS Day on November 15, 2006 which included faculty presentations on the use of GIS in teaching and research, in the Honnold/Mudd Library Founder’s Room. For more information about GIS, you can visit Honnold/Mudd Library to learn how geography and geographic information system technology can make a difference in our lives, or visit the GIS Services Information page.
National Library Week
The American Library Association describes National Library Week as “a time to celebrate the contributions of our nation’s libraries, librarians and library workers and to promote library use and support.” The Libraries hosted Celebrate Reading on April 12–13, 2007 in honor of National Library Week. Celebrate Reading allowed students, faculty, and staff at The Claremont Colleges to celebrate reading by talking about and reading from works that are important to them.
