Malvern House, 176 the Rye, Dulwich, S.E. 22, Apeil 18th 1939, Dear Starkey, After much toiling and moiling I have at last finished the revision of the old Genllemen's Magazine article. Except for one or two vital corrections, the facts remain as before, but the writing has been considerably bettered, so that on the whole I shall be able to receive my honararium with a clear conscience. The transcripts of the old Chancery documents are still in my posession and would be at the disposal of any capable writer who planned writing a new and fuller Woffington biography. Please let me see a proof at your convenience. One has to be wary about the printing of dates, mistakes are so easily made. You will I am sure readily accept my apologies for the typographical defects in this epistle. To know all is to forgive much. I have typed this letter myself, though my sight is fading daily. It only needs the war to come suddenly round the corner to give me my quietus. I hope you are both feeling better for your holiday, though I cannot conceive that Mrs Starkey could
