Madam 1777
Last night I rev'd a Note from Kirk--
He remembers very well the taking
down of three trees, & that old Blanchett
brought them over from* Mr Winch with ye *for?
branches on-- at the time, he told
me, the loppings were mine, but I
said, that I would have no dispute wth. a
Neighbor for such a Triffle, nor will I
with you Madam for ten times as much,
as ye widow of one I very much esteem'd.
The Persons in ye Parish who understand
these matters, all agree that ye loppings
are ye Tenant's, & that there is no
instance to ye Contrary-- I likewise
believe that ye Brother thinks so,
because when I saw him, he did not object
to my having them, as my Gardener
signify'd to you-- Mr Mandel whose
word I would have taken, could not
give it upon this Occasion-- in short
be they my Property, or be they
