to E. Kean
Dear Edmund
I am extremely sorry to be under the
painful necessity of troubling you with another Letter
but I cannot think it possible the answer I received
on Thursday at the Theatre came from your own lips.
I have no doubt you have many intruders on your
Liberality but on no occasion whatever will I trouble
you again if you will only assist me to get out
of the difficulty I am at present labouring under.
I am in daily expectation of being confined and
have not a shilling in the world to see me through
it if I go to an Hospital I shall lose my work
which is the only dependence I have. Had I the
trifle that remains of the sum you was kind enough
to provide me some years ago (of which there is
a little remaining) it would enable me to get
partly through my trouble--if you would only
grant me an interview for five minutes I will
never either write, come or send again as long
as I live. You can thus the facts of my
assertion. Pray do see me or send me a favorable
answer as I am waiting. I remain, yours
ever grateful
Betsy Fawcett
