ALS: Edmund Kean a very interesting letter to Edmund Kean
Dear Edmund,
I once more take the liberty of addressing
you on a subject which I hope you will not
deem troublesome considering I am the only
relative of your Father in existence and knowing
by experience that benevolence is your leading
characteristic more particularly so when you
know it is not ill bestowed. For these few years
past I have been obliged to work very hard at my business
and can scarcely obtain a support as needle work is
very precarious added to which I have suffered severely
from an asthmatic attack those two last winters
which I think I have imbibed by sleeping with my
aunt so young which has involved me in pecuniary
difficulties from which I find it impossible to
extricate myself without the aid of your kind and
generous assistance ever so small a sum would
be gratefully and thankfully received by yours
Betsey Fawcett
