My dear friend - (silver & gold pens are abominations com-pared to the human feeling of a goose quill) I saw Mr. Ger-hard yesterday evening & he told me that he & Mr Meredith had concluded that it would be best for you if you will be so kind to write a copy of the enclosed note to Mr. Butler- in case I do not in the course of the day hear from him (Mr Butler) either thro' you or thro' Mr. Gerhard - I shall send round this evening to let you know whether I do or do not hear any thing else & in case nothing is heard of Mr. Butler's movements shall feel much obliged by your sending him a copy in your hand of the enclosed if it meets with your approval
I am my dear friend
Your's ever gratefully
Fanny
