London Wednesday May 27 1752 DrSowdon The last Post brought me the plesure of a Letter from you. I have seriously weighd the Contents, and approve of your scheme, tho' for your own sake I woud wish it had been more discreetly managed. I shall give you my Reasons by and by. My Engagements in England are of such a nature as I am sorry to tell you render it utterly impossible for me, at present, to say that I will absolutely join you next season, tho' you may be certain that I will the summer following. Could you depend on the Promisses of the People you mention'd, which I fear you cannot, out of them, & those, who may be had on this side the water, such a company, I think, might be form'd as, from the Novelty of the thing, the Enimies of Sheridan, their own merit & Industry, might do great matters, and fix such an Establishment as would at once be attended with Profit & Reputation.
