2007-03My dear Dr. Boas Pray forgive me for this delay in thanking you for sending me your Marlowe book which I am delight to have. It's a happiness to see Marlowe coming to his own after being so long neglected.I am hoping that The Jew of Malta will soon be in print if is not already. If events are favorable I should like this summer to give a public reading if not a performance of the play. I saw the "show" given by the Renis. Society and I thought it did not do justice to the play and missed its proper point of view. It was not played as serious Tragedy in the sultiors time. I see it as a satirical farce in which Marlow exposes the greed and hypocrisy of the Christians. This letter to the M. of V. being written in retaliation and to the over accentuation of the virtues of Christian who did this to please E who was the head of the C. Church.
