San Francisco April 9th 1861, Dear Wife. I have got here safe and sound, although we had a very long passage over 20 days. I was some sick after we left Acapulco with some fever, but have got better and well except my appetite is not very good we had a very smooth and calm voyage. I find trade in Washoe stock quite full at present but the [illegible] are bad yet. I have not seen many of my folks yet I expect I shall have some trouble in collecting what is due me at present but shall try and settle up as fast as possible every thing looks fine here now New potatoes and vegetables are plenty in market the weather is warm and fine now I wish you were here to see the place it is so splendid at this Season of the year I want to hear from you very much and all the folks at home I shall go up to Sonoma tomorrow I think to be gone a day or two I shall go over to Washoe in about.
