San Francisco Oct. 10th 186[?]
Dear Wife,
It seems a long time since I have heard from you I had about given up the hope but yesterday I found a letter dated last July here in San Francisco you are assured I was happy to hear from you and that you were all well I have been well most of the time in Washoe or N.T. I hope you are getting along as well as when you wrote. I have had considerable trouble in setting up my business but am now getting things in better shape and hope to be able to leave by the 11 of Jan for Home I have become tired of living in this country in this way and if I should be obliged to I think I should cave in or enlist for the war, if I had expected to have been obliged to have staid here so long I would have had you come with me it costs me nearly as much to live here as it would to support a family besides I have got tired of a Bachelors life if I come home and do not sell the ranch I may want to come back and I suppose you will come with me if I agree to go back again it seems strange you do not get no letters
