Dear Wife,
I received a letter from you by the last mail dated at Lowell I was some what supprised to think you had gone to work thare. I hope you will not stop thare long I don’t like the idea of your working in Lowell in them Mills. A washer woman in Cala is a Lady while the factory girls are servants the women here in Nevada dress like ladies in Broad way N.Y. Even the servants Irish. German Darkies dress in richest of silks. You would think to see them that they were mostly Queens, but the most of them are Homely faces. Thare is some Spanish, China, Dutch Chelanos, Indian Negro and in fact women from all Nations of the Earth here thare is what we call Spanish Dance houses here American men generally keep them they have several women generally Spanish who they keep to Dance with the boys at 50 cts a dance each, by the way of change one Spanish woman struck a dirk into the man who had been keeping her as a wife for 2 yrs he beat her severely one night and turned out Doors the next day she went back after some bed clothes and he objected to her taking them and she stuck the dirk into him. She was locked up and tried in Court and cleared on the ground of justifiable self defense the man will probably die from the wound.
