Description	Chandler writes that “it has been very hard times here in Mineing [sic] operations this year.” Chandler laments separation from his wife and regards his condition as if “everyone’s curse is on me.” He mentions that the editor of the Territorial Enterprise mistakenly sent the subscription to Hartford instead of Hartland. Notations in pencil on the first page at the top read: “The writer is a bit low in his mind. Ups and downs in the miner’s lot.” Pencil marks highlight certain parts of the text pertaining to the title.

Transcription	Virginia Nov 26th/65 Dear Wife I am usually well and have been looking for a letter from you in answer to one I wrote in San Francisco. I should have had an answer before this. I sent fifty dollars in the letter and am curious to hear if you recieve it or not in order to govern me in sending more In your last you acknowledge the recept of $20 I hope this will find you and the children well, it has been very hard times here in mineing operations this year. But things look a little better now. I have secured a large intrest in the new mines on the Sierra Nevada Mountains in Calafornia
