Virginia City June 8th/61
Dear Wife,
I received yours of May 11 I was glad to hear you were all as well as usual except mother. I hope she will get rid of those bad turns. My health is good now. Times are dull just now here although they are getting out tons of Silver & gold. My intrests have suffered some for want of attention last winter some were clumped as we call it or relocated which will make me some trouble Charles was not here to do anything although he was within 8 or 9 miles all winter he don’t take any intrest in mineing but is working on a Ranch or driving cattle for $30 per mo and don’t get his pay at that he told me the man owed him for 8 mos work now he may get it but it is doubtfull I think he is well and I shall try to have him do different in future if he had taken care of the mineing ground we had here he might have done much better
