Virginia City Nov.11th 1863
Dear Wife,
I read yours of Oct. 4th I was very glad to hear from you I have not written since I left here for San Francisco over two months since, I Telegraphed you last week I was well and should be Home this winter I learned in San Frisco from Mr Frink that Mrs Frink had concluded to stop until Spring at her fathers, and I would rather you would not come alone or with strangers I am trying to settle so as to leave next month and if nothing new prevents shall be in New York in January. I have had very good success this Summer & Fall. Although missing the mark by selling too soon to the amount of about seventy five thousand dollars, we don’t worry much about that amount in Stock Trade, in other instances I have done well by selling I have got past risking all in mining stocks, I still have plenty of mining stock a Hundred thousand dollars or more but I don’t count on stock until it pays Dividends Mr Prescott & myself closed the sale for the Ranch while I was over for Eighteen Thousand Dollars
