Description	Chandler writes that “times have been very dull in regards to selling mines” and that “Capitalists are afraid except they see all their money in sight.” He writes that he is near the Utah line and that the Mormons “are very cautious about thier [sic] wives while living among gentiles.” He writes on the 8 November 1870 elections in Nevada and the new Governor, Lewis R. Bradley. Notations in pencil on the first page at the top read: “Dull times in mining operations. Cautious Mormons. Black and Tan Republicans wiped up in late election.” Pencil marks highlight certain parts of the text pertaining to the title.

Transcription	Dear Wife, I received yours dated Sept 21st a short time since, I have been in Secret Canon most of the time since I wrote last. My letters lay in the post office here although I ordered them sent out, I was glad to hear you were all well, I have been very well and have been trying to make some money out of my mines but we have had no facilities for working the ores until now we have a mill now ready to run near the mills which will give us a chance to make some money if the weather hold favorable this Winter. Times have been very dull in regard to selling mines or speculating on them capitalists are afraid except they see all thier money in sight. It is no wonder they have paid so often for worthless mines I have some rich ore in some of my claims and the prospect is very good for making considerable money from them
