Dear Wife,
I received yours enclosed in Willie’s letter by which I learned that I have or had then the right to call you wife I had concluded (after all you have heard from liberal correspondents and tattlers) that you might have taken some other name than mine in your last letters to me about the time Harry C came out to Virginia you had some very singular excuses for not coming out which puzzled me much to account for, you said you did not expect to live long and that you wished to be with friends when you Did Die and very singular soon after
